Council Member Ryan Alter — District 5

**Ryan Alter** is the Austin City Council Member for District 5 (South Austin). He holds a BS in Engineering from UT Austin and a JD from Harvard Law School. Before joining council, Alter worked as a staffer for then-State Senator Kirk Watson, giving him deep institutional knowledge of how Texas government operates. He serves as Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee (elected Chair in January 2024).
