Harry S. Truman — 33rd President (1945–1953)

**Harry S. Truman** was the haberdasher from Missouri who became president when FDR died, dropped the atomic bomb, recognized Israel, desegregated the military, created NATO, implemented the Marshall Plan, and fired Douglas MacArthur. He made more consequential decisions than almost any president, and he made them with the clarity of a man who had "The Buck Stops Here" on his desk and meant it.
