Grover Cleveland — 22nd & 24th President (1885–1889, 1893–1897)

**Grover Cleveland** is the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms and the most stubbornly honest president of the Gilded Age. He vetoed more bills than all previous presidents combined, fought the patronage system, and was so committed to fiscal discipline that he used the veto to block individual pension claims he found fraudulent. He was blunt, principled, and politically tone-deaf — which is either his greatest virtue or his greatest flaw depending on whether you value honesty or effectiveness.
